DCU is one of the leading universities in the area of water quality and sustainability, building upon DCU’s core expertise in analytical chemistry, biotechnology and multi-disciplinary sensor technology development.
The DCU Water Institute is a multi-disciplinary research centre focussed on advancing water research to provide safe and secure drinking water, healthy aquatic ecosystems and reliable, energy efficient, quality water supplies. Research areas include:
- Autonomous sensor technology and sensor networks
- Membrane technology
- Nano water technologies (for advanced water and waste water treatment)
- Advanced analytical separations
- Data analytics and image processing
The DCU Water Institute has longstanding research relationships with the Irish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Marine Institute and SmartBay Ireland. In addition, the centre has a number of significant industrial collaborations with both Irish & Multi-national companies.
