Insight@DCU
Insight@DCU focuses on two key areas – Media Analytics and Personal Sensing.

Media Analytics
DCU’s data scientists develop computer programmes to automatically analyse images and video to understand the content.  The team has a growing focus on using Deep Learning, a machine learning technique modelled on the human brain, that allows computers to automatically identify what is in pictures faster and more accurately than ever before.  These Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions are transforming the industry bringing new levels of accuracy and speed, from face detection in security surveillance through to self-driving cars and robotics.  DCU has a growing international reputation in the field of deep learning.

Personal Sensing
DCU researchers use both off-the-shelf commercial devices and develop new sensors for human sensing applications.  Examples include smart sweat sensors for sports athletes, glucose levels in tears for contact lens design and development.
